ROMA at THREE RIVERS   PEI        for Teachers

Schools 2004, 2005          Children’s Activities at Fête Roma                    Home       français        E-Mail

The volunteers of Roma at Three Rivers are interested in including  students in our activities in various ways.

We believe we can, together with their teachers:
...    enhance the students' experience of
local history,
                 ...    encourage their
speaking French,
                 ...    provide material for
creative writing, and
...    give opportunities for expression through
music and theatre.
[For a few  high school students there may also be chances to fulfill their

                 community service requirements and
                 we expect to offer paid
summer employment

for a couple of tour guides/re-enactors.]

Within the next few months we offer several specific events that should fit in well with teachers' curriculum requirements:

1.  A group of our volunteers are prepared to do presentations in the classroom on either of two topics Clothing of the 1700s or Children's Toys of the 1700s.  The intention is to do this in September and October, but if it fits your curriculum now, contact us.   To arrange to have your class included in this effort, please contact Elizabeth LeLacheur 838-2203 or e-mail to Elizabeth

2. Heritage Tours of the Roma site with knowledgeable costumed volunteers can be arranged to suit your group.  Just contact a few weeks in advance at  info@romapei.com .

3.  Other teachers may also find a connection to the Roma project useful to their students.  And we want very much to encourage our teenagers to "take ownership" of this site and it's development, believing in its potential to transform our community as happened in Louisbourg and more recently in Carrequet.

... We have a continuing need for text to be translated into French (e.g. our website needs constant updating) and occasional opportunities for French-speakers to present our project .

... We anticipate increasingly authentic re-enactment of 1700s activities as part of our summer tours and during Fȇte Roma 2006.  We have three vignettes ready but would appreciate more short skits that show the character and life of Roma's people.  [The easiest and best information source is the 50 page book History of Jean Pierre Roma by Jill MacLean available at $10 each. Jill will be attending the Mar 3 and 4 workshops if you'd like an autographed copy.]

... We anticipate offering a full dinner-theatre as part of Sept. 9th's Fȇte Roma 2006 and need volunteers capable of performing as entertainers in 1700 style (a wonderful opportunity to perform with one of PEI's most famous fiddlers Louise Arsenault of Barachois fame).

Any teacher who would like to use any of these possibilities in any aspects of their teaching are invited to contact us at info@romapei.com so we may cooperate in creating mutually effective programs.
